Not updated as often as it should, but might be at some point...

Keeping up with the trend at Firaxis to relaunch older Sid Meier titles, the company has announced that Colonization is going to be released as a standalone expansion pack for Civilization 4. In it you will play as either English, Spanish, French or Dutch colonists trying to forge a new nation in the New World. It will include "Improved Diplomacy", multiplayer, a new interface and the brilliant level of moddability there is in Civ 4.

Personally I am looking forward to the game and will certainly be buying it when it is released, although I think that only four civs seems a bit limiting.

Does anyone else have any thoughts on this game?

A little late, since I've known about it for weeks, but still pretty nifty. The Civ 4 engine is a good way to give it a much-needed update and make it a modern game. I'm hoping they'll try something similar with Alpha Centauri next, especially if this update sells well.

Let's hope they don't let Meier anywhere near it, so they can ditch the ridiculous 'tax rate rises in random increments to 99% due to outrageous cartoon king' and 'you must fight a War of Independence to win' stuff.  Colonisation was much more interesting and low-level than Civ (and modern Civ games are just a sad reflection of the industry), but 1 victory condition that permeates the entire game (people loyal to the home country don't work as hard, lol) is just dumb.  The War - the focus of the entire game - even involved piles of AI cheating.  Pfft.

Now an Alpha Centauri remake would be amazing .
