I come here today to announce a new metaverse empire, the Hitchhikers of the Galaxy.

This is a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy themed empire and anyone is welcome to join, even if you don't even know what the guide is . In fact, the only requirement is that you have a sense of humour.

Join our ranks and become part of our community. Over here at the Hitchhikers, your more then "just another member". Join us now and together we shall dominate the metaverse! In those already large empires(Diplomats for example) there is no need for ambition as they are already in a secure position. Help us tear down the very foundations of these unworthy empires. Have your effort count for something and not just one of the many thousands of games in an empire where it shall be overshadowed by its age-long reputation weilding members. Help us dethrone them!

Anyone can join a super-power empire, but it takes a true imperial citizen to forge one. Help us forge this empire, and be that glorious senator!

You don't like the title? I don't either! But we're working on that...

Those top 10 empires have been sitting in those ranks for too long. Much too long... They shall fall and we shall be their successors...

How long have you seen those Diplomats or Kzintis or Hegemony-ions in those top ranks? You can join them but you'll never get the same kind of respect earned as you will helping build your own empire instead of joining a ready made one. Help us build YOUR empire where you can proudly say, "Come hail or high water, we shall not be surpassed"[this part bit too cheesy, me thinks]

For every galaxy you dominate is just another day for the one of the Galactic Civilizations but its the start of a new day for the Hitchhikers of the Galaxy... as the new rising champions for the metaversal throne!

Join here!

Thanks, nice to be aboard.

I just had a technological victory the other day and um...the answer really is 42.

In fact, I think there are more references to Hitchhikers in this game than to many of the other homages here and there. I personally was quite surprised by the Monty Python tribute. Very nice.

Well I finally figured out what that metaverse button is about and got set up a character set up. I really didn't want to have a one man empire. So after shopping around for an empire I decided to join this one. I like all science fiction and the Hitchhiker's series by Douglas Adams (DA, is that just a coincidence) being one of my favorites. At this time I would like to introduce the Oreans:

(Static is seen, but the view screen fails to present an image. The sound of claws applauding and exited chittering and squeaking can be heard)

ORNELIUS: "Is the translation device on?...Yes? OH!...Greetings I am Ornelious Carvier, leader of the Oreans. It is time we take a larger role in the development of the galaxy for the betterment of all. We have worked for eons for the Mice on many of their projects with great pleasure. Of particular note was our contribution of the design and construction of the super computer Deep Thought.
I would like to apologize however. Appanrently there was a misunderstanding. You see, we are alergic to babel fish and rely on Orean translators. When the Mice asked for help with a super computer, we understood, 'a lazy calculator sufering from ennui and an sarcastic, and slightly cruel, sense of humor.' We did not realize this mistake until roghly 17 and a half million years later while reviewing our records. Later we learned of an answer Deep Thought posed to the Mice of '42'. The question to that answer is actually, simply, 'what is 6 x 7?' Again we apologize, since this was not the question or the answer that was sought, and we have sent the Mice a case of pan galactic gargle blaster mix in attonement. I undestand the people of Earth were also inconvenienced and we have sent enough pan galactic gargle mix for the entire population. Please feel free to pick it up at your postal box at Alpha Centauri at your earliest convinience. You know you should really have a postal box installed on your planet.
And as a final token of our good will, it turns out that we Oreans have always known the answer to the ultimate question of life the universe and everything which is..."

OREO: "Excuse me sir, your tie is croocked" (Hurried pattering of clawed feet is heard) "let me help you with that!" (The sounds of a struggle are heard)

ORNELIOUS: "AACK! (faint) help he's chocking me!"

OREO: "No I'm not. I'm just helping to staighten your tie Sir. We can't have you looking sloppy before such an important audience!"

ORNELIOUS: "Yes you are! Guards help!"

OREO: "Don't be silly, I'm not chocking you. Guards look a pretty girl!"

ORNELIOUS: "yes...you...are...chocking...me...help...can't...breathe....."

(The sounds of struggle end. There is a heavy thump and then the scraping of furniture on the floor)

OREO: "Greetings, I am Oreo Zepol, the new leader of the Oreans. Our last leader just had a fatal wardrobe malfuction. I promise the Orean people that those responsible for making the faulty tie will be punished.
I would like to clarify that we Oreans don't know antyhing at all. Yes, that's it we're just babbling idiots. We look forward to the continued progress of The Hichhikers of the Galaxy Empire...um...I hope we can fit in and...ALL HAIL EMPEROR MACMATT!

Yeah, for an American game there is a surprising amount of British comedy references .

Thank you. I worked hard on it at work.

Hmm... Looks like a vintage great war Admiralty recruitment poster. Is that Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz? I hope so, unappealing, but fitting. The pleasing neutral color does not distract the eye from the image or the message. I like the military themed wardrobe, and the way the message and the pointing gauntlet balance each other. No tie, very smart, it's my opinion that sentients should avoid decorative clothing or jewelry around their main gas exchange passages near Oreans. Where's his towel? Well maybe it's in his back pocket, that's where I keep mine.

Let's see it states "WE NEED YOU" Why me? What for? I already joined! I didn't do anything! I'm not even doing what I'm getting paid to do right now! OH! I think I hear my boss coming! I'm hyperventilating! I'm starting to PANIC! It's not my boss. I fell better. It's just some dim witted fool too dumb to realize I am insulting him as he reads this post over my shoulder.

Maybe if it had "Don't Panic" printed on the back in large friendly letters...

Well, let me think of the references; HHGTTG- British, Monty Python- British. And if prince Charles is what we British are judged on then it is a sad day for our country .

You should be a comedian or something

Or a writer, ever thought of doing ARR?

I loved reading over this, not too many posts since I was last here sadly BUT! I agree that the Oreo would be a cool frood to have narrate an AAR.

Don't worry, and most of all Don't Panic!
